The recommendations book tag

Thanks for tagging me, Ally! I only started reading again last year after a 2 year break from reading so I can’t say I have a lot of recommendations but I’ll do my best!

Rules

  • Tag Ally @ Ally Writes Things so I can see your recommendations!
  • Give at least one recommendation for each of the prompts below
  • If you don’t have a recommendation, talk about a book you want to read
  • Tag your friends

A book about friendship

The secret of nightingale wood by Lucy Strange has aspects of friendship in it.

Percy Jackson and the the lightning thief is also a good book about friendship.

A translated book

The only book I can of is Inkheart by Cornelia Funke as well as Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke. They’re translated from German, I believe.

I really want to read The Dwarves by Markus Heitz which is also translated from German.

I’m also going to read Dreams of the Dying by Nicolas Leitzau which is another German translated book I think. (Watch out for a review of this book coming soon to LeafPages!).

I don’t know how I could forget this one, as I reviewed a book from the same author but The Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski is also a translated book, from Polish. I’ve never read it, however.

The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer is (usually) a translated book however it’s been translated from Middle English.

Grimms Fairy Tales by The Brothers Grimm was also originally written in German. Versions today can be found in English.

A diverse romance

Eek I can’t think of any. Maybe Killer Game by Kirsty McKay. I think one of the characters, Vaughn, is mixed race but this book isn’t a romance it’s a middle grade thriller.

Fierce Heart by Tara Grayce is a fantasy romance between an Elf and a human so maybe that counts as diverse?

A fast-paced book

Falling kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes. You’ve probably seen me mention this book a lot, it’s one of my favourite series.

I’ve heard that One of us is lying by Karen mcmanus is also fast paced. I have it on my shelf but haven’t read it yet.

In fact I have a whole list of books that were fast paced and kept me hooked so we’re going to list that in a post at some point.

A nonfiction other than a memoir

Wonders of the universe by Brian Cox. It’s so fascinating and great if you love astronomy!

An underrated memoir

I don’t read memoirs. The only one I’ve read is Call the vet by Bruce Fogle. And maybe the Diary of Anne Frank when I was 9.

A book with fewer than 10,000 ratings on Goodreads

The Confectioner’s Guild by Claire Luana. It’s about a girl who has magic and she bakes that magic into her cupcakes, one day she’s forced to join a guild of people with magic.

I’m really bAd at explaining plots.

A book with an LGBTQ+ protagonist

I haven’t really picked up a book with a LGBTQ+ protagonist but the Falling Kingdoms series by Morgan Rhodes has lgbtq+ characters in it and I was LIVING for their romance; it was the most pure, adorable, heartbreaking romance ever.

A book by a trans or non-binary author

I’m so sorry I have noooo clue about this one. I don’t think I’ve read any. I really wish I could’ve read all the books in the world before doing this tag. Clearly, I have to branch out of my fantasy comfort zone.

I think An unkindness of ghosts by Rivers Solomon might fit this one.

A book with more than 500 pages

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is the only one I can think of at the minute.

I do love thick, chunky books but I always seem to have trouble actually finishing them.

These are ones that I will read in the future; Lord of the rings by Tolkien, House of Earth and blood by Sarah j maas, Blood song by Anthony Ryan, The Dwarves by Markus Heitz and The Priory of the orange tree by Samantha Shannon.

A short story collection

21 proms is the only short story collection I’ve read.

I hope to read Broken Throne by Victoria Aveyard which is a collection of novellas from the Red Queen universe.

Book you want everyone to read

There’s so many, I can’t pick just one! Inkheart by Cornelia Funke, Swift by RJ Anderson, The Host by Stephanie Meyer, The Watchmaker’s Daughter by CJ Archer, Speechless by Madeline Freeman*, Of beast and beauty by Chanda Hahn*, Fierce Heart by Tara Grayce (my latest obsession), Vendetta by Catherine Doyle, Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes and The Guinevere Deception by Kiersten White. To name a few.

There’s many more but we’d be here forever!
